Lions supported the MK Hospital Cancer Centre

MK Hospital Childrens A&E waiting area

When the hospital created space for a dedicated waiting room in A&E for children to protect them from some of the sights in the adult area, Lions were quickly involved providing books and subsequently, with the generous support of IKEA, lamps, an easel and shelves. This continues our support of the hospital. Since the initial project we have been able to replenish the books, thanks to Lion Dennis' good relationship with Willen Hospice.

MK Hospital courtyard garden

Another project supporting our local hospital, this time rejuvenating the courtyard garden close to the discharge suite. We hope to be able to maintain this on an ongoing basis. In 2015 we moved to a new garden as the hospital had expansion plans.

                                                                                                               Orchard House

In Wolverton, this council run facility is for elderly residents and those needing intermediate care. There is an enclosed garden, which was in the distant past landscaped, but has lacked care for sometime. During the last few years we have been able to regularly come to the garden, clear leaves and weeds and plant. Each year sees a small step in improvement and we now started to look after the area at the front entrance, which is a sunnier spot for residents to sit.

This project has now concluded

School in a Box

www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpEamPygTNk

A UNICEF school-in-a-box will help at least 40 children continue their education in times of emergency and conflict. UNICEF's school-in-a-box contains materials for an entire classroom packed into a large portable aluminium case, including a solar/wind-up radio and even an inflatable globe for geography lessons. The inside lid of the box doubles as a blackboard when coated with the special paint included in the kit. This kit also contains resources for teachers and allows for double-shifts for classes so that more children can benefit.

Lifeskills

www.lionslifeskills.co.uk

The Lions Clubs of the British Isles and Ireland are financial supporters, endorsers and partners of Tacade in providing lifeskills based education initiatives and resources for those working with children and young people from the ages of 3 to 19 years.

Tacade works in the field of personal, social, health and citizenship education. Established in Manchester in 1969 as the Teacher’s Advisory Council on Alcohol and Drug Education, Tacade was a pioneering force promoting interactive participatory health education. The work soon developed beyond the school setting to working with youth organisations, the police and prison service. The charity then became known as the Advisory Council on Alcohol and Drug Education. During the 1970’s the work expanded beyond alcohol and drugs education to other areas of personal, social and health education and the organisation became known simply as Tacade.

Lions  Food Cupboard

All requests for food parcels are received from Milton Keynes Children's Social Services. Over the years the Food Cupboard has become a prime unbiased source upon which these professional people call for emergency short-term support for families in need. Food is delivered directly to the door of every recipient family, with no cost to themselves. The service is provided through voluntary donation.

There are two food packs distributed by Food Cupboard: one which provides the basic food needed to feed a family of four for one week and one for a small family, (single parent and baby or very young child (with nappies and baby milk/food as required)). The packs include non-perishable, frozen and fresh food.

Tools for Self Reliance

We are a small charity that provides a safe and caring working environment where volunteers, including those with Learning Disabilities, can refurbish donated old tools transforming them into working tool-kits for onward distribution to developing countries. Our comprehensive tool kits help support and empower Artisan and Women’s groups contributing to their community’s self-reliance.
